Yasushi Osonoi

Yasushi Osonoi has over 30 years of IT industry experience in the fields of Engineering, Marketing, Alliance, Business Development, and starting new companies.

He has utilized these experiences to manage multiple technical user and developer communities. This includes him working closely with the Open Source Software community to improve software robustness by facilitating events, meetups,… including:

• 2009: Host the first Linux kernel summit in Japan
• 2010-2014: Establish the Dell on-line community for engineers in Asia.

Mr. Osonoi currently holds the position of Developer Advocate at IBM, responsible for evangelizing the latest IT technologies (AI, Blockchain, containers, Kubernetes) for the IT community.  Outside of his IBM post, he also contributes to the Japan Drupal (CMS) community, including hosting events, to expand its adoption in Japan.

Managing Highly Distributed Software Projects 15:00 - 15:40
Over the past couple decades, software development efforts have progressively expanded in size. Initially projects were worked on by developers located in a single company headquarters, but this grew to encompass regional offices and eventually globally distributed teams.  On top of this, some projects are now worked on collaboratively through inner-sourcing and even full open-sourcing (with famous examples including the Linux Kernel, Android, Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice).  Therefore, we would like to host a roundtable discussion to review the state of affairs for highly distributed software projects, the complexities of managing them and the tools that make it all possible.
